The Purification is a cure for murderous psychopaths developed by Dr. Peter Thomason. Having to remove the patient’s brain creates more than moral issues for Thomason. To save the lives of all involved with the secret program, he must stop fanatics bent on destroying it.

Synopsis

New Year’s Eve, 1999 – Boris Yeltsin unexpectedly resigns as president of Russia, leaving control in the hands of former KGB head, Vladimir Putin. The US government takes advantage of the chaos to recruit Russian scientists.

One young scientist, Doctor Pyotr Trofimov, fears Putin after the mysterious death of his wife. He agrees to flee the country. Pyotr Trofimov becomes Peter Thomason.

Assigned by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) to a top-secret project codenamed The Purification, Thomason uses nanotechnology to cure psychopathic behavior. The process restructures cell DNA in the brain – but there’s a catch; removing the patient’s brain from the body.

Years of police work pushed Brad Zanger to a mental breakdown and murder. Sentenced to life without parole, he agrees to be the first human subject for The Purification in exchange for a pardon and the opportunity to reunite with his wife, Elizabeth. Housed in a treatment sphere, Zanger lives in a virtual world. Realizing the treatment caused his mind to develop ever-growing intelligence, he vows to continue his vigilantism, beginning with all who ruined his life.

Samson Collins III is the father of one of Brad Zanger’s victims. The billionaire built a fortune through his company, ColSci, a fading technology corporation passed over by LANL for work on The Purification. When Collins learns that his son’s killer is the program’s first patient, the opportunity for revenge is too tempting. If LANL doesn’t want ColSci, Collins will take what he wants from them. He uses political power, blackmail, and henchman to take the sphere that holds Zanger’s brain.

Thomason causes Collins’ plan to go sideways, escapes with the sphere, and runs a deadly obstacle course to save Zanger’s life. What he discovers is that more is at stake. He stands between The Purification being for the good of the world or the cause of its destruction.
